Ultrasound examinations
  1. Preparation for the examination. In the case of an abdominal ultrasound examination, the patient should be fasting, should not eat or drink before the examination, should not smoke, and should take medications for chronic diseases. For 3 days before the test, you should not consume products that cause flatulence, such as cabbage, legumes, carbonated drinks. It is also recommended to take a product that reduces the amount of intestinal gas on the eve of the examination, e.g. Espumisan 3 x 2 tablets. In the case of an ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs (prostate, reproductive organ, urinary bladder), in addition to preparing for an abdominal ultrasound examination, you should drink about 1 liter of water and come for the examination with an already full bladder.

In the case of a thyroid ultrasound examination, no patient preparation is required.

Computed tomography

Computed tomography examinations are performed with a spiral device with a 64-row detector system from GE - EVO Revolution. Purchased and working since 2018. This shortens the examination time, reduces the dose burden on the patient and improves the quality of the examination by increasing spatial and contrast resolution.

The laboratory has an automatic injector for administering the contrast agent. Possibility to save a digital copy of the test on a CD-R/RW and/or MO disk.

Magnetic resonance imaging

The MR (magnetic resonance imaging) system purchased in 2018 is a high-field MR (3T) MR machine from GE. Possibility to save a digital copy of the test on a CD-R/RW and/or MO disk. The equipment used in the Department of Radiology of the IPiN meets the requirements of the DICOM standard.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasound is performed with an ACUSON JUNIPER (Siemens) device (purchase year 2018), also with a digital data processing track with the possibility of saving a digital copy of the examination on the MO disk, and ultrasound is a method of imaging parenchymal organs based on the phenomenon of reflection of the ultrasonic wave from these organs, which is generated by the camera head. Thanks to this phenomenon, we can image organs in a non-invasive way, without the need to administer contrast, and safe for both the person being examined and the examiner. Ultrasound of the abdominal cavity including: liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, retroperitoneal space and aorta is currently one of the basic and widely available diagnostic tests.

Classical radiology

X-ray examinations are performed with a modern Siemens digital camera purchased in 2009. Possibility to save a digital copy of the test on a CD-R/RW disk.

For the patient

When visiting a diagnostic laboratory, we expect that the imaging examination will be performed quickly, safely and correctly, and that on its basis the radiologist will make an error-free diagnosis, on the basis of which the clinician will apply the appropriate treatment. For some tests, it is possible to conduct them without any preparation. In the case of other tests, it is necessary to perform additional activities to ensure their proper conduct, i.e.: safe for the patient, fast, high quality, free of artifacts and, above all, diagnostic.

Examinations in the abdominal cavity and smaller pelvis require prior preparation because intestinal gases produced during digestion, as well as air swallowed while talking, eating and smoking, as well as fecal masses sometimes make it difficult or even impossible to properly perform the examination. If we have an examination ordered that requires following a special diet for 1 or 2 days, and we are constantly taking medications related to the treatment of chronic diseases, we do not interrupt this therapy. Take medications for high blood pressure, heart, anti-asthmatic and other medications with a small glass of pure water.

Preparation for research

ATTENTION! Preparations for diagnostic tests guarantee that the image will be of good quality, which will enable a thorough assessment of the examined organs and proper diagnosis, as well as a safe course of the examination.

What every patient should know before undergoing the test:
Computed tomography
  1. Preparation for the examination. The patient should be fasting, i.e. he must not eat 4 hours before the examination; if the patient takes medications on a permanent basis, they should be taken at the scheduled time with plenty of water, with the exception of medications containing metformin, which should be discontinued 24 hours before the test. It is necessary to provide previous test results with the CD.
  2. During the examination, it may be necessary to administer a contrast agent, which may result in allergic reactions. Before the contrast agent is administered, the patient receives information with a list of possible complications and consents to the administration of the contrast agent. A current creatinine and TSH result is required for a contrast test.
  3. During the examination, the patient should lie still.
  4. Computed tomography examination is contraindicated in pregnant women.
Magnetic resonance imaging

The patient does not require any special preparation

  1. During the examination, it may be necessary to administer a contrast agent, which is associated with possible allergic reactions, about which the patient is informed by the staff. Before the contrast agent is administered, the patient must give written consent. A current creatinine result is required for a contrast test.
  2. It is necessary to provide previous test results with the CD.
  3. During the examination, the patient should lie still.
  4. Patients with implanted metal elements require a certificate from a doctor confirming there are no contraindications to magnetic resonance imaging with a power of 1.5T or 3T

Magnetic resonance imaging is strictly contraindicated in patients with a pacemaker

RESEARCH PERFORMED FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE IPiN ACTIVITIES

Classical radiology research
  1. Preparation for the examination. No preparation is required for chest examinations. In the case of general examinations concerning the abdominal cavity, lumbar spine and urography, it is necessary to cleanse the intestines of feces and intestinal gases. For this purpose, you should consume a laxative the day before the examination and fast on the day of the examination.

In emergency cases, abdominal examinations are performed without any preparation.

  2. X-ray examinations are contraindicated in pregnant women.
